2xLP soundtrack release by one of today's most acclaimed composers, Nicholas Britell (12 Years A Slave, The Big Short). Director Barry Jenkins followed up his 2016 Best Picture-winning feature film 'Moonlight' (which Britel also scored) with this adaptation of the acclaimed James Baldwin novel. This deluxe heavyweight edition features the full score, 5 bonus tracks, and 5 licensed tracks by Nina Simone, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Billy Preston and Birdlegs & Pauline. Truly incredible work, a must-have for more than just soundtrack fans.
Jazz Room Records big boss Paul Murphy reissues another obscure, hard-to-find and sought-after Latin jazz album of the highest order! This time, a glorious New York fusion of salsa, Latin jazz, boogaloo and funk most famous for the two-part 'Suite Gauracho' - a piano-popping, flute-laden affair that has become a favourite of both Balearic and nu-jazz DJs. Big chunes for the Jazz dancers!
A genuine must-listen for fans of underground hip-hop, especially the unique sonic worlds of Madlib. On this record are 13 previously unreleased tracks that he recorded with childhood friend Declaime (now better known under his given name, Dudley Perkins) between 1993 and '96. Madlib's beats are undoubtedly a blueprint for his later work, delivering a deliciously Californian blend of head-nodding hip-hop beats and loops and samples lifted from psychedelic, funk, soul and jazz records. Declaime's rhymes - laidback, thoughtful and on point - are superb, too, making 'In The Beginning Vol1' an essential selection of long-lost bedroom hip-hop jams. Just wait for Vol 2... Huge tip!
Known for his late 70's soul-jazz classic 'Rhythm Of Life', Mason's sound was phased out as trends shifted into (electronic) disco, leading him to release just that one album. This tidy release includes a remaster of the proto-house classic 'Nightgruv', a killer extended edit and on the flip, an epic 11-minute original version of 'I Want Your Love'; a soul classic. I mean... come on!
