If you have you ever thought to yourself, "wow drums are good", boy do I have a record for you... Renowned Black Acre producer Clap! Clap! and Italian percussionist Domenico Candellori officially join forces as TOROZEBU. This project is a marriage of traditional percussive sound sources and cutting-edge sound engineering. Front to back, this entirely percussive album is a soundclash between the past and future of global rhythm. Don't miss this one!
Over the years Athens of the North founder Euan Fryer has heard a lot of incredible music, so when he says that LaRombe is the best singer/songwriter he's heard, you know you need to sit up and take notice. Fryer trawled all the way back to archived recordings from 1979 to give us this phenomenal retrospective, touching on soul, disco and 80s rhythm and blues. All killer, no filler!
Another Soundway Records home run! This compilation sees them exploring the fringes of the often maligned (by outsiders) genre of Caribbean party music, Soca; a re-invention of Calypso music. Seventeen blistering cuts of obscure soca crossover, rapso, electronic calypso, and Caribbean ‘soca-soul’... party starters galore!
Another terrific release from Gut's live band on Heavenly Sweetness, this time leaning into Afro and Brazilian jazz-funk. Totally joyous and carefree rhythm, this is made for the beach or a sunny dance floor. Worth the pickup alone for the jazz flute and drum breaks on 'Daddy Sweet'... Ooofff!
Analog Africa presents an incredible compilation of some of the wildest experimental Afro-Caribbean psychedelia ever produced. This story is of one man’s bizarre odyssey into Colombia’s coastal music underground, and the wild, hypnotic sounds he helped bring to the surface. Described (and seen in the mad covers) as "the B-Movies of Colombian music", these seventeen tracks of avant-garde Columbian recordings sound like little else recorded before or since.
