2022Acrylic on canvas 61 x 91cmSamir Hamaiel is a Visual Artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane) working predominantly with paint, drawing and digital techniques. His architectural background, studying and practising in the UK, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Australia, has significantly influenced his visual approach with strong highly structured perspectives. He has a particular interest in the in-between; less celebrated urban spaces which have evolved over time and demonstrate their history with markings, signage and texture. His background is also expressed through his work. British born with an Egyptian Father and English mother, Samir explores the complexities associated with his cultural identity: the in-between spaces in his work are a representation of this in-between status.

2021Acrylic on canvas63 x 92cmPippa Makgill is a New Zealand-born, Australian-based painter and sculptor. Pippa's work addresses the idea of shifting materiality, and the presence of the 'formless' within space. She often applies the concept of 'fluidity' to her work - capturing gesture within static mediums - and is deeply compelled by edges and how they can pull on the body's sensual gauge of sight, surface and form.

Runners Oil pastel on paper420 x 297signed en versoAs an established designer and visual artist, Day traverses two distinct visual realms and navigates this duality within his studio. Through his gallery artwork, he expresses dual experiences—aggression versus compassion, accomplishment versus failure and creation versus accumulation—by emphasising the role of contrast in his oil collages. Positive and negative elements enter into a cheerful interplay, and the viewer witnesses objects and figures connect with their environment by sharing defined edges, and bouncing between two-dimensional planes.

2022 12 x 9 x 7cmStoneware & GlazePeta Berghofer is a Giabal and Jarowair (Toowoomba) based Artist working with clay as her medium and the vessel as her form. Her work references historically familiar form and function, but she disrupts these expectations of traditional vessel-based, ceramic art practices. Peta’s self-referential ceramics are most often presented as the same body of work, exhibited as abstracted still-life installations. Here, she plays with distinctions between the gallery and domestic spaces, engaging with historic and contemporary tensions between art, craft, and design.
