Almost a decade on from his classic album ‘Noi No’, NYC’s Madteo runs amock on Honest Jon’s with nine tracks of groove graffiti, scrawling on disco, hip hop, house and garage styles with inimitably thrifty, freehand tekkers. Mixing deadly cool and charmingly frazzled dance tracks in his patented rug-cutting fashion, this is 'club music' but with an abundance of detail and chicanery that will come to light with headphones and home listening. It's batshit crazy, bargain-bin yahtzee and absorbingly brilliant.

After a few mega EP's, Kokoroko finally deliver their expansive and rich debut release on Giles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings label. Incredibly joyous compositions that beg to be heard live pull oodles of inspiration from the highlife and jazz sounds of West Africa, the Afrobeat and psych-funk sounds of the 70s and plenty of modern broken beat styles that have been perfected in their home city of London. cktrl aka Bradley Miller is a key player in London’s pioneering musical underground, especially here on London's fast-rising label Touching Bass. cktrl plays heartfelt clarinet and saxophone-led soundscapes spurred on by "overpowering feelings of heartbreak" and a desire to push left-field Black music, and in doing so establishes himself as one to watch in the contemporary-classical music scene. One of the last OG DJs on NTS, he's also collaborated with Sampha, Sango and Dean Blunt. Gorgeous stuff.
