BIG Strut reissue of Patrice Rushen's Elektra debut, the 1978 classic 'Patrice'. Not just a brilliant pianist, songwriter and arranger from a young age, Rushen took lead vocal reigns for the first time here with her heartfelt and vulnerable messages of hope and love. Elektra didn’t fully back her until the early ‘80s, but influential clubs and black radio DJs saw her unique talent and were constant supporters. This reissue features bonus 12” versions of the big singles ‘Hang It Up!’ and ‘Play’, the popular Danny Krivit re-edit of ‘Music Of The Earth’ and a previously unreleased version of ‘Didn’t You Know’ from the original session tapes.
At just 12 years old, Shelby befriended DJ's Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles while studying the lovin' lyrics of Prince and Marvin Gaye and then went on to write love notes for all the boys in his high school which made a killing. Cut to 1987, and this two-tracker is released and cemented in Chicago dance history. On the A, effortlessly propulsive house rhythms, salsa-tinged bassline, and dreamy strings fuse magnificently with Shelby's steamy, Prince-esque verse. On the B is a woozy and jackin' tribute to Ron Hardy, Shelby's formative influence. Also includes a postcard with lyrics! Dark Entries do the lord's work here with this ESSENTIAL reissue...
Gorgeous remix EP of Marseille (France) based singer/songwriter David Walters' hit record 'Nocturne'. Full of sweeping strings, acoustic rhythms, joyful Afro-centric horns and all number of other live instrumentation, this little package has a flavour for any occasion from the EU and Caribbean-based DJs. A fun DJ tool for the tropical spinners!
Recorded with just a mic, Korg MS20 (synth), hang drum and field recorder, ‘Moon Phase Gardening’ is conceptually framed around how the lunar cycle affects plant growth. With stunning results, this record dissects indigenous South American and Afro-Latin rhythms into deep percussive workouts wrapped in electronic jilts and vocal fragments. A stunner release from Music From Memory's more left-field sibling label, Second Circle.
