The hottest street soul joint in a minute! Manchester’s Balearic synth lord Ruf Dug teams up with vocalist Private Joy for a sexy strut down your nearest palm tree-lined beach. Ruff Dug doesn't even remember making the beat, which adds to the hazy charm and might explain the beautifully sparse and wandering piano solo. An alternate Reggae mix sits on the flip and both versions have instrumentals on their respective sides. A total must-buy for the tropical DJs!

The third studio album from Virginia hip-hop duo Timbaland & Magoo, Under Construction Part II was released in 2003 and serves as the follow-up to Missy Elliot's iconic album of the same name. With Timbaland handling a majority of the production, the album boasts the large and flamboyant beats that we've come to expect from Timbaland as one of the top producers of the late 90s and early to mid-2000s. The album features a classic appearance from Missy Elliot (Cop That Shit), as well as other big-names in Brandy, Wyclef Jean, Beenie Man and Bubba Sparxxx. A personal favourite, if only for Indian Flute alone!

This 2015 reissue from Awesome Tapes From Africa is the whole reason founder Brian Shimkovitz started the blog and the label that grew out of it. Some 13 years before, Brian found a cassette copy of Obaa Sima in Ghana, leading to the foundation of the ATFA blog and long-running effort to track Ata Kak. 4 years after ATFA became a label, Brian finally tracked down the musician and was granted permission to reissue Obaa Sima, using the second-hand tape purchased in Ghana as the source. The seven tracks on this LP are a winning tinny combination of highlife, rap, pop, and more. Not everyone's cup of tea but I think it's sensational.

Tornado Wallace & Jamie Tiller's Basic Spirit (named after their popular party series in Berlin) returns with its sophomore effort, this time with Wallace flying solo. The title track is a euphoric ride, featuring emotive vocals and pan-pipes, contrasted by a sinister bassline, all jacked up faster and harder in the Speed Bump mix. On the flip, loved-up sunrise breaks of 'Sea Translation' comes with a gorgeous ambient version. Essential Tornado Wallace!

'More Energy Fields, Current' is another high point in the recorded continuum of prolific producer/percussionist Carlos Niño. Featuring heavy contributions from many of the most exciting ambient and jazz instrumentalists in the creative constellation of Los Angeles (of which Niño’s has been central for over 2 decades), the album holds 10 crystaline pieces of collaborative communication; elegantly presented in his unique “Spiritual, Improvisational, Space Collage” style. Nińo makes albums that need to be absorbed in one sitting (or preferably lying down), as each piece carries you through one portal to the next, before safely being set back down where it all began. YES.

Breezy, electro, dubby, balaeric beats and bumps from Germany's Fizzy Veins. Vocally similar to King Krule meets Flight of The Concords (weird but accurate), it's equal parts groggy and warm in the most low-key way possible. A totally surprising gem of a record! Lovely stuff.
