2023Stoneware, glazeSlab-builtRuby Yeh is a Taiwan-born, Meanjin (Brisbane) based ceramic artist.Her works utilise various hand-building techniques, though she’s most intrigued by the possibilities of a simple cube form to construct sophisticated pieces - symbolic of her personal connection to the world. Ruby is also a student of Urasenke Chado (Japanese tea ceremony) under the guidance of Sensei Tomoko (Soho) White.

Radiant compositions with bold primary colours and charming bulbous figures defy the rules of proportion. Working across a diverse range of mediums — from digital illustration to drawing, painting, sculpting and stop-motion animation — Skordilis crafts small and thoughtful worlds of intentional lines, block colour and joyful characters.

Dane Lovett’s flower paintings both embrace and eschew their historical, thematic and allegorical roots. Dark, often monochromatic and subtly tonal in their palette, the scores of works that populate the Melbourne-based artist’s debut book 'Flowers' gestures towards the syntaxes of minimalism and seriality as resolutely as they do the still life. Where earlier works saw the artist construct still life arrangements from indoor plants and pop-cultural ephemera (VHS cassettes, vinyl records, CDs, ageing tech and the like) Lovett’s recent practice has seen him embrace repetition and delicate variation, with an unmistakably reductionist and art historical bent. Here, he recasts French artist Henri Fantin-Latour’s 1864 still life Flowers: Tulips, Camellias, Hyacinths in countless murky, monochromatic iterations – a single vase of flowers becoming a site for sustained painterly exploration, variation and rhythm. In 2003 he relocated from California to Queensland where he now resides.The artist has exhibited at the Caloundra Regional Gallery, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Palma Rosa Art Gallery, the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize exhibition, The Third Quarter Gallery, and his work has toured throughout Queensland by Flying Arts Inc. as part of the Regional Art Award exhibition.
