Hot on the heels of his debut EP on Mathew Hallsall's Gondwana Records, saxophonist and flautist Chip Wickham is back with a gorgeous full-length. Wickham is a member of the first Gondwana Orchestra and was on Halsall's debut LP Sending My Love, but now he steps out with a sound that is all his own on Cloud 10. It's lush and spiritual, with mellifluous keys draped over gentle drums and heart-aching sax solos reaching truly emotional highs. Gorgeous, life-affirming stuff from this modern great. Tip!

Opening with the late Sanders himself singing praise to astrology, Moon Child is a quiet gem in his discography. Also includes a stunning rendition of Horace Silver's 'Moon Rays' as well as Abdullah Ibrahim's 'Moniebah' as an epic closer. Restorative late 80s jazz for mellow days and hazy nights.
A favourite of Madlib, Ian Carr and the Nucleus's 'Labyrinth' is brooding, beat-heavy, melancholic jazz-fusion that doesn't sound a day out of step. Re-issued and remastered from the original analogue tapes, it's the first time made available since the release in 1973!
Reissue of 1973 smouldering and cinematic jazz-funk from Brazilian conductor, pianist, arranger, and producer Daniel Salinas. 60 years out of press, this has long been a classic within rare groove circles as well as amongst breaks and beats diggers. Check!
Veteran French artist Ramuntcho Matta has plenty of work to explore, so really helps to have the curatorial instincts of a label like Emotional Rescue to guide us. After reissuing Matta's 1986 album Ecoute a few years back, they return to the very same year and another startling work, 24 Hrs. The A side tracks through short and expressive instrumental paths, utlising a snaking tabla, trumpet and accousitc guitar, clearly nodding to Don Cherry's spiritual free-flowing journeys. 'Sunset' on the B side takes things further across 20 transcendental minutes of unbound musical mastery. Wow.
ESSENTIAL. Nine amorphous 'movements' are centred around a seven-note theme that builds and retreats as guided by the late avant-jazz saxophonist Sanders, arranged by mega-producer/DJ Floating Points and brought to life by the London Symphony Orchestra. A fitting swansong to a pioneering master <3
Originally released in 1982, Kakashi is a high water mark in the 80s Japanese underground. It's a revelatory blend of saxophone experimentations, jazz fusion, ambient dub excursions and new wave. TIP!
