Ghanaian highlife guitar legend Ebo Taylor teams up again with Strut for a long overdue definitive compilation of his seminal 1970s recordings. During Ghana's highlife explosion during the 1950s and '60s, Ebo Taylor made his name as a prolific composer, arranger and frontman in bands before studying music in London alongside Fela Kuti. He returned and in the 70s started exploring unique jazz fusions and borrowed elements from regional Ghanaian folk music, Afrobeat, jazz, soul and funk. This comp revisits his classics and some of his lesser-known side projects. Includes rare photos, original album artwork and sleeve notes by Soundway Records' Miles Cleret.

In 2017 Acid Jazz signed a deal with soul legend Leroy Hutson to license his vast catalogue of work. Having already reissued a number of key releases, the long-running London label has now put together this retrospective of his solo work. It contains material from albums and singles recorded between 1972 and '84, plus a couple of cuts that were previously unissued before they appeared on wax earlier this year (most notably the brilliant "Positive Forces"). Naturally, there are plenty of must-haves present, including classics such as "Cool Out", "Lover's Holiday", "So In Love With You" and "Closer To The Source", making it a near-perfect introduction to Hutson's sensual musical world.
Recorded and originally only released in Argentina in 1972, this album shows an exquisite and delicate dialogue between the guitar of Sebastião Tapajos and the percussion of Pedro Dos Santos. A stunning two-hander, it generates ambiences of unusual beauty and depth. A necessary companion to the much-hailed Pedro Dos Santos album 'Krishnanda' and an essential record for those keen on the more adventurous sounds of Brazil. Tip!
The definitive edition of a 1977 classic, featuring the international dancefloor hit ‘Every Way But Loose’. Includes mega funk workout “Higher” and the wistful stepper “Always Have To Say Goodbye”, an enduring staple among soulful DJs worldwide. This killer Strut reissue features five unheard studio takes all remastered from the original tapes. A timeless record from a timeless act of African-American music. Tip!
